UK Business Directories and Citations: Keep NAP Consistent
A citation is a public listing of your name, address and phone. This page lists real UK directories local businesses still use — maps profiles first, then the usual directories, then the weaker ones. Some are free. Some upsell. Some are low value. We do not claim we submitted you anywhere, and we do not promise rankings.

The problem
Citations will not put you in the Map Pack on their own. Broken ones still waste time: an old mobile on Yell, a trading name that does not match the site, a second listing someone created years ago. “We submitted you to 50 directories” is usually junk. Paid upgrades are ads, not an SEO entitlement.
What good looks like
Claim Google Business Profile if eligible, then Bing Places and Apple Business Connect. Then the UK directories people still recognise: Yell, Thomson Local, Yelp UK, Facebook About, Trustpilot if you already have reviews there. FreeIndex, Scoot and Hotfrog UK are real but often low value — NAP consistency only. Trade platforms (Checkatrade, Rated People, TrustATrader) only if you sell through them. Same name, address and phone everywhere. See the NAP checklist. Skip junk submission packages.
What Upvision does
Audit the listings you already have. Align NAP, then stop. DIY is enough for many firms — claim Google, Bing and Apple yourself. We get involved when listings conflict or the profile may be ineligible. Commercial work sits on local SEO services. Book a Free Growth Audit. The wider read is local SEO for UK businesses. We do not blast junk directories and we do not guarantee rankings.
FAQ
Will listing on these directories get us in the Map Pack?
No. Citations support trust in the same business entity. Map Pack still depends on eligibility, distance, categories, reviews and competition. Nobody honest can guarantee a pack position.
Do you submit us to 50 directories?
No. We check and tidy the listings you already have, and we claim the few that are real and missing. We do not blast junk sites or invent a submission count.
Which directories are free?
Google Business Profile, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect are free to claim if you qualify. Yell, Thomson Local, FreeIndex, Scoot, Hotfrog, Yelp and Facebook usually have a free claim or add-listing path. Paid upgrades and trade platforms are optional. Check the live site before you pay.
Should we pay for Yell or Trustpilot?
Only if customers you want still use that surface, and you can measure enquiries. A paid badge is advertising. It is not a ranking guarantee.
We are a service-area business with no shop. What should we list?
Follow the same eligibility rules as Google. Do not publish a public street address you do not serve customers from. Hide the address on Google if that is the honest setup, and do not create a conflicting HQ on random directories.
How do we start?
Fix the site footer and Google Business Profile so they match. Claim Bing and Apple the same week. Then book a Free Growth Audit if the trail is messy. If the form fails, email info@upvision.uk.
